Mr. Mohammed Suraw’s election was challenged by
the former Mayor John Kitilit and his upport. It
was reported that Mr. Kitilit and his seven
supporters boycotted the election after
realizing that he was going to lose his bid to a
second term.

Mr. Mohammed Suraw received 12 votes therefore;
he was elected by the majority. However, the
losing team filed court papers in an attempt to
block Mr. Mohammed Suraw from carry on his new
duty as Mayor. But, the town clerk ignored the
lower court’s order alleging that the court
document was not served properly sighting that
the document was served by the former official
at the council.
It was alleged that the former Mayor John
Kitilit and his allies engaged in a smear
campaign against Mr. Mohamed Suraw and
fabricated stories that alleged that he is
criminally unfit to hold such an office, thereby
tainting his character. Subsequently, the Nakuru
municipal Judge
issued second orders on August 05, 2011 banning
the newly elected mayor and his teams from
assuming office until a court case filed by John
Kitilit and his team is heard and resolved.
However, according to latest information
received, Mr. Mohammed and his team have filed
court documents of their own at the Nakuru
Supreme Court and the higher court has thrown
out the lower court’s restraining order and
thereby allowing the newly elected Mayor and his
team to go ahead and do the job which they were
elected to do. But, the court also, allowed the
losing party to go ahead and continue
challenging the outcome of the Mayoral election.
So, we will inform you as the latest information
becomes available
