This is a video clip of Chilaqo town. Chilaqo is located in the Western Gharri region ,Southern Ethiopia. It was created in 1800's by British mercenary forces as buffer zone, because of its strategical location and main water supply routes. Since then, it has been used by various military personnel  whenever there were skirmishes around the Kenyan-Ethiopian border. However, it just became full fledged district in 2011. The town is still under development, and it has not changed much since the earlier days. To see it please click on the picture.

Gharri camel herders short documentary Film produced by Gur. This short film will shows that our people in the mainland still live the same way as our ancestors. The same life style that we all born into decades ago. So, please watch it carefully and learn to understand their way of life and customs. The language they used with our camera man/ film crew in this film was nothing more than their customary way of communication amongst themselves and friendly neighbors                                                                    

                         This is Mr. Hassan Isaaq's family of goat and camel herders living in Huddet District Western Garri region. Mr. Isaaq and family are dependent on Goat milk products. His children appears to be very content and well feed. They bred goats and camels for dairy and occasionally use one or two for meat during special Muslim holidays. Most Gharri people in this part of the world are herders for their livelihood and are dependent on life stocks.

News Brief from Central Gharri Region
On March 26, 2012, the Degodia cattle rustlers raided Gharri herders at Malka Roqa near Arda Garbicha and got away with 180 cattle and killed four herders.
According to information received from Banissa, the Degodia looters came from Filtu District of Ethiopia and now, the Kenyan authorities are meeting with the Ethiopian counterparts and demanding for the return of those looted herds.

According to news coming from Mandera, a group of Marauding Al shebab belonging to the Eldhere sub clan of Marehan raided Koromey town located about 5 kilometers from Mandera town, today in the afternoon during Asir praying time.
